Portraits of Children in Pastel - with Louise Brown - 16th & 17th October 2019
Come along to my two day workshop creating portraits of children in pastel.
Bring your own images, ideally more than one so we can choose the best, although I will have some for inspiration if you have nothing of your own.
To begin with I'll talk a little bit about what I do, my materials, different types of pastel and the paper I prefer and why.
I'll show some of my work and discuss what makes a good child’s portrait .
A short demo will follow, showing the importantance of drawing the features exactly right before pursuing the painting process. During the demo I'lll explain what I’m doing and how I approach it as I go.
After lunch you will all be ready to embark on your own paintings, and I'll assist everyone with their choices, composition and placement of features.
When all students have achieved a good likeness to the person being portrayed we will commence with the pastel painting process.
While some maybe confident enough to begin using pastels the same day, others may want perfect their drawing and begin colour on the second day.
The next day is all about colour, tone and technique . I will complete a short demo in the morning with pastels. Then over to you . Layering colours and getting a feel for your own style, by the end of the day you will all have a painting rich with character, colour and life.
